I am sure I heard a whoop go out when Jamie xx recently revealed his collaboration “Life” with Robyn. Similarly, I expect pop fans and festivalgoers alike were hoping Jamie would bring out Robyn during his set at Glastonbury last weekend. What’s more, they were not left disappointed. Since the Swedish pop icon duly appeared from the wings to join Jamie xx front of the stage. And much to the rapturous delight of a delirious Worthy Farm crowd.

Robyn has unleashed in at least one collaboration a year since she released her last official solo tracks, “Missing U” and “Honey” in 2018. These collaborations include link-ups with SG Lewis and Channel Tres on “Impact” and the Swedish pop queen’s contribution to a reimagined version of “Buffalo Stance” with Neneh Cherry and Mapei. But to have Robyn back, adding her sweet, distinctive vocals to a Jamie xx dance track, really is a prestigious occasion.

Speaking about the track, Jamie says:

“I made this track pretty fast (for me) and I loved it from day one. When I first heard Robyn’s vocal it was at 6am after finishing playing Pacha in Ibiza, it was the perfect moment”.

Between them, Jamie xx and Romy of the xx are tearing up the pop and EDM realms with their latest musical masterpieces. Readers will have noticed I have waxed lyrical many times about Romy recently. When praising her fabulous debut album “Mid Air” and focus singles. Now, the baton shifts over to Jamie xx. As he prepares to release his long-awaited album “In Waves” on the 20th of September, via Young.

Since, he pulled off a truly memorable performance at Glasto. Especially because of playing a trump card with his surprise guest Robyn. I somewhat suspect when the festival hangovers wear off there will be an influx of album pre-ordering, as a way of cherishing the memory of such a euphoric experience.

Of course, it doesn’t matter if you watched the TV or internet coverage of Glastonbury. Neither if you are catching up now with replays and on-demand streaming. The excitement felt about this iconic Glastonbury performance is palpable, regardless.
