Have you noticed that Sia is approaching the release of her music differently lately? Unlike many other pop stars who quickly drop a string of teaser singles before an album release, Sia is feeding the hunger of her fans by releasing her songs at a slower pace. Her first music since 2021, “Gimme Love,” was released in September 2023, followed by “Dance Alone,” a duet with Kylie Minogue, months later in February 2024. Sia’s method of releasing music not only creates anticipation and excitement among her fans. Her method also allows each song to receive the attention and recognition it deserves. Sia also revealed that her upcoming, tenth studio album, “Reasonable Woman,” will be released on May 3rd via Atlantic Records.
The music industry has come a long way from splitting up promotional packages and releasing singles separately as was customary over a decade ago. However, waiting for each single drop can still bring on a nostalgic feeling around an album release. That’s why it’s so exciting to hear that the music video for the Sia and Kylie single “Dance Alone“, directed by Dano Cerny, has finally arrived after six weeks. It’s the perfect addition to keep the momentum going and generate even more buzz for the upcoming album release.
While waiting for the unveiling of the music video, I feel we have all had somewhat, similar ideas of what to expect. Especially since Sia, rarely makes even the briefest appearance in her music videos. The presence of stand-ins garbed up in Sia-styled wigs is the norm of what we have come to expect from her. In fact, it’s become an intrinsic part of the Sia signature brand.
This music video is a must-watch for all Sia fans. Not only does it feature four mini Sia dancers on a tiny island, adding to the feeling of remoteness and isolation, but it also has Kylie showcasing her moves alongside them. Yet, the highlight of the video is undoubtedly the rare sighting of Sia herself. Albeit she is appears briefly, in an unflattering, unique royal blue sheet-like costume. Sia’s willingness to give viewers a glimpse of her profile makes this release remarkable. Although the song may not be the strongest, the presence of Sia alone is enough to make it worth watching.
