This weekend in the UK, we experienced our hottest day of 2024 yet. However, on Friday, when dropping off the third single and video “Illusion” from the upcoming album “Radical Optimism.” Pop queen Dua Lipa similarly served the hottest music video of the year so far. And furthermore it’s not hard to see why…
If we cast our minds back to Dua’s “Training Season” performance at the BRITS Award show. I am now realising that in this performance it is likely she was sharing a huge easter egg in regards to her next music video release… i.e. “Illusion“. In her latest visual offering, the “Illusion” video culminates, with Dua climbing a castell-inspired tower, a reference to the infamous Catalonian tradition. Noticeably, a similar tower effect was created by her backup dancers in the BRITS performance.
Interesting fact. Did you know, the Tanu Muiño directed video for “Illusion” was filmed at the Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc in Barcelona, Spain? Also, the pool which features also served as the location for Kylie Minogue‘s “Slow” video?
The latest single, “Illusion,” is a standout track that diverges from the previous singles of this era, “Houdini” and “Training Season.” Its upbeat music styling carries more of a disco presence, which echoes the massive success of her previous album, “Future Nostalgia.” “Illusion” feels like a natural progression towards Dua’s third album era, bridging the gap between the second and third phases. “‘Illusion’ was the first song Caroline, Danny, Tobias, Kevin and I worked on together, and it really broke the ice for the record,” Dua shares. “It’s about knowing what you’re getting yourself into, but staying for the hell of it. The joke’s on them, it’s the fun of playing someone at their own game because ultimately you won’t fall for an illusion.”
Dua Lipa’s artistry is truly exceptional and her music never fails to leave me wanting more. Moreover, the “Radical Optimism” album campaign is doing an amazing job of building anticipation among fans. With her incredible talent and unique sound, I have no doubt that this new album will be a huge success.
