While I was away on my holidays a week or so ago Troye Sivan snuck out another track in readiness for the release of the upcoming album “Bloom.” “Dance To This” a collaboration with Ariana Grande was always going to be hotly anticipated video opportunity, as such I haven’t lost any sleep because of not writing about the song up until now.
Ever since the song first premiered as Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 World Record, the soothing track has edged its way into the pop sphere because it’s fab, dreamy, and sexy. Also, Troye had his own way of building more interest around the song, by way of teasing snippets of the visual online and via his app. If there wasn’t reason enough alone to watch the clip owing to the fact Troye and Ariana star in it. He really went and lit the fuse on the excitement around it saying on Twitter, “The DTT vid was inspired literally by “High School Musical” and “Grease” and “Pass This On” by the Knife and a gif of Cher spinning around that I can’t find rn.”

Sivan also said about the song, “‘Dance To This‘ is about that moment when you feel like you’ve been to enough house parties or events, and staying home and like, making out in the kitchen and cooking dinner sounds like a much, much better alternative.” However, I sensed this video, much like the others already unleashed as part of the “Bloom” album campaign would be entirely different to anything else we’ve seen from the singer before.
The opening scene of the clip is set in a community centre day room. The camera pans around the room where we see every one of the folks inside, have their minds preoccupied with thoughts of elsewhere. What is this? A day room full of daydreamers? It begs the question is Troye one of them? Maybe it is merely that these people are engrossed in their favourite pleasure pastimes. A domino champion, a card player, a book reader, sure seems to me these people are in the zone. Troye, of course, gets his enjoyment through singing and so stands proudly in front of the room, takes hold of a mic and does what he does best. Cue a seated Ariana Grande to break free of the mould, step forward and join in the with Troye dancing and singing to their heart’s content. As the music fades, the scene changes Troye is sitting in the back of the room, with his headphones on and with a look which clearly suggests he’s detached from his immediate surroundings. Leaving us under the assumption, what happened was a figment of his imagination after all, wasn’t it? Pinch me I may be day-dreaming, but I honestly thought I just watched four minutes of another flawlessly thought out, Troye Sivan music video.
