With the countdown to Sam Sparro’s long-awaited third album, “Boombox Eternal” entering it’s the final phase, the singer shares ballad “Eye 2 Eye” as the third single. The track is a nice change of pace which is no less suited to Sam’s smooth, dreamy vocals. In keeping with the authenticity of the influences from the late-80s / early-90s pop music, he grew up listening to, which Sam is recreating on this body-of-work. “Eye 2 Eye” features the stellar casting of well-known singer-songwriter Nikka Costa and Vula Malinger (Basement Jaxx, Sam Smith) on backing vocals, with production from Ryland Blackinton (Cobra Starship.)

While I do feel Sam has sought inspiration from Michael Jackson and Prince and breathed it into life on this track. The soulful vibes are nonetheless, evocative of what pop music was sounding like during the crossover from the 80s going into the 90s. Major kudos goes to Ryland and Josh Gudwin (mix), the production is impeccable. Really, stellar work. Listening to the song I am convinced that when Sam and his team hit the studio to record “Eye 2 Eye“, they went right in, and created a real, classic, of the modern-day. It is a very, special track and this can be clearly, heard through every glimmery detail of the production, and the careful poise of Sam’s remarkable soulful voice.

Boombox Eternal” …”The project is a love letter to my 8-year old self and to the music that made me want to be an artist,” Sparro notes. “The songs are mostly about love but also about power and breaking through boundaries.”
