Rae Morris had a long list nomination on the “BBC Sound of” poll in 2015, her debut album “Unguarded” secured her spot on the annual music, tastemaker list. Previously, before the bigger spotlight shone on her I was delighting in songbird Rae’s enrapturing, ethereally, elegant vocals myself on tracks “Do You Even Know“, “Cold“, “Under The Shadows” and “Love Again“. Following her stint in the public gaze and earning critical acclaim for “Unguarded“, the Blackpool raised singer-songwriter began work on her sophomore album recently, announced as “Someone Out There“. The album is slated for release through Atlantic Records in February 2018, and again, features production from Fryars and Ariel Rechtshaid, additionally, bringing on board My Riot, Fred Gibson, Buddy Ross and Starsmith, as well as mixing from Dan Grech.

Anyone who know how much I rated Rae’s “Unguarded” album, might be a little surprised that I haven’t written about either of the recent singles “Reborn” and “Do It“, when the truth of the matter is, purely coincidently, Rae sneaked these tracks out at times, when I was away, on holiday. I have been really, curious about the development of the electronic style of the new music and I’m just, glad that all my annual leave for the year has been taken and, I didn’t miss the release of “Atletico” because this is the biggest, departure in sound and style thus far. And, the most pop Rae has ever been.

The song reveals a fun side of Rae which was left and undiscovered before. It seems to me the “Unguarded” period was all about getting herself noticed and as such might have lead to being regarded by some as being too, serious. The good thing is, it looks as though Rae is putting the picture straight on the sophomore album by letting in a cute, amount of uplifting melody and lighter dynamics. In the accompanying video, we see the singer checking out the sights and sounds that New Orleans has to offer. Whether it’s joining in to dance with a group of guys dressed up as bananas or handling a baby alligator Rae takes is all in her stride with a smile on her face and with relish.

Tickets for Rae’s UK spring 2018 tour are now on sale.
