Lizzo doesn’t need much of an introduction these days. The case being she more than adequately has a presence which speaks for itself. What a big honour to headline the Ticketmaster event at Stubbs BBQ at SXSW. This was a monumental and special show. Everyone is talking about it. Nonetheless, there was a lot of buzz building around this performance probably due to the massive appreciation “Juice” has received. If you didn’t make it inside Stubbs for this one show above all others, then you were sure to be left weeping into a dish of spicy tacos by way of consolation instead.
For someone who grew up in Texas, SXSW is home turf for Lizzo. She has made appearances at the festival previously but this time around there was no shadow of a doubt – Lizzo was about to become the breakout star of the event.
She dressed patriotically for the occasion in a cowgirl hat, tasselled jacket and star-spangled panties. Without a seconds thought, the audience ate it all up. The unabashed badassness, the twerking, the commanding vocal performance and the confidently-aware bold lyrics, was devoured by the Austin crowd. Lizzo is indeed the pop star/spokesperson we not only NEED, but we WANT!
Diary date: Long-awaited full-length album “Cuz I Love You” is available April 19th and includes the fiercely intoxicating Missy Elliott collab “Tempo” which our New Music Editor, Mandy shared her thoughts about just the other day….
TRUTH! EQ Music can’t help but LOVE Lizzo
