When the news broke, the next single would be coming out. This week was always going to end up, with me writing about the new Charli XCX track featuring Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek.
Having noted the follow-up single to “Good Ones” was a collaboration with her good friends and pop artists Christine and the Queens, and Caroline Polachek. Of course, added fuel to this fire. (A feeling similarly felt, when the ladies also began sharing some seriously, sassy press pictures. And, glimpses from the forthcoming “New Shapes” video on social media). As is the customary thing to do. We were drip-fed snippets of the track and images. Right up to the last minute. I am just glad the premiere of “New Shapes” on Apple Music was not overshadowed, with everyone excitable about news from ABBA. Like what had happened the last time when “Good Ones” dropped. This time. Charli has got in a day early of ABBA releasing their much talked about album “Voyage“. Good for her!
As Charli unleashed the mightiness of “Good Ones” on us. I remember in an interview. She cited Janet Jackson and Cameo as sources of inspiration on the new album. This, wasn’t a style I picked up hearing in the track “Good Ones“. I notice something of a Cameo/Janet Jackson vibe coming through on the latest offering “New Shapes“. The track runs much smoother. And at a slower pace than the, fast and furiousness of “Good Ones“. Whereas, “New Shapes” has a different kind of energy. Being geared around a theme of a softer, styled love ballad. This collaboration could have resulted in many different things. Eg. A big, explosive pop offering. For example. They went with, complementing one another with their gorgeous vocal harmonies, instead.
Speaking with Zane Lowe of Apple Music about the collaboration and the track, Charli said…
“I feel like. We breathe so much energy into each other on this song, and are also so thrilled to watch each other shine. I think this track shows off our love for each other, and the intensity we have when we come together”.
The “New Shapes” video will follow shortly. (Likeliest, next week). We have other news to digest, for now.

Would you be interested to listen to a bit of the Rina Sawayama collaboration from the album? Charli, has leaked 10 seconds of it. Tune in below, if so. (I am really excited by it. Sounds, fire).
