I’ve had the pleasure of featuring the incredibly talented Australian indie-pop group PEPTALK on EQ Music blog numerous times. With this in mind, it’s clear to me, that they have a unique ability to engage in delightful and heartfelt conversations on a multitude of topics. Whether it’s reflecting on infatuation. Navigating the complexities of past relationships. Embracing the “fake it till you make it” mentality, or delving into the poignant experience of unrequited love. PEPTALK without reservation, always manages to capture the essence of these themes in the most captivating and charming ways. Their music is most notably a true reflection of their ability to provide a whimsical and endearing perspective on various facets of life.
In November 2023, the talented musical trio captivated audiences with the release of their highly anticipated debut EP “Dumb Teen Heartache.” This release marked the beginning of a captivating journey. Where they began to amass a remarkable collection of catchy and whimsical songs. Furthermore, the trio, comprised of Jay-Lee, Lara, and Phoebe, is poised to carry this momentum into 2024 with the launch of their latest heartwarming track, “Forrest.” A beautiful tribute to the intricacies of long-term relationships.
If you haven’t already guessed. The inspiration for the latest song draws from the 1994 Robert Zemeckis-directed film “Forrest Gump” (starring Tom Hanks, Sally Field and Robyn Wright). In this instance, the band found particular inspiration in the character Forrest Gump’s unwavering dedication to Jenny. A theme that resonates with their desire to explore the complexities of relationships. (Including imperfect moments shared with a perfect significant other).
PEPTALK has certainly earned a reputation for living up to its empowering name. What’s more, while demonstrating a consummate approach, they consistently deliver valuable advice in a friendly and endearing manner. Yet, what sets a PEPTALK release apart most notably, is its ability to cut to the chase. And doing so, while maintaining a sweet and endearing quality that makes for truly captivating song-making.
Unquestionably, their music speaks volumes. And therefore sets PEPTALK apart as among the most amiable group of musicians in the indie-pop scene.
