When Everything But The Girl drops new music. We (EQ Music) view this as a significant music moment, particularly evermore so, with the twenty-four years pause between the old stuff and the latest songs. Bearing in mind, Ben and Tracey unveiled “Caution To The Wind” in a follow-up to “Nothing Left To Lose,” their recent comeback track, an hour before I left to travel to London for our EQ Music Live show on Wednesday. This is the earliest opportunity I have had to sit down and write some thoughts about the latest shimmering electronica masterpiece, “Caution To The Wind“. (Also, getting back into my writing groove helps prevent the post-gig blues from setting in.)

With these two songs, Everything But The Girl, so far have shown they have mellowed. Soothing and calm, evoking almost dreamlike state soundscapes take precedence in their comeback thus far. Anyways, the current output from the duo is superb and easy listening. They impart yearning lyricism while incorporating enveloping trip-hop music at the same time.

Lauren Laverne of BBC Radio 6 had the honour of premiering “Caution To The Wind,” on her Wednesday show. Announcing the track, she shared the following statement from the press release.

“Lyrically it’s a simple song about arrival and seizing the moment. So with the music we tried to capture a feeling of a perpetual point in time.” (Tracey Thorn).

Without a doubt, Ben and Tracey have played their comeback somewhat differently. Going to musical places less dancey, both dreamy and ambiently leaning. However, we are warned not to get too comfortable in this blissfulness.

“We are both, once again, knocked out by the love shown for the new track. We are excited as the album still has lots more changes of gear and, shifts of mood and tone that we look forward to sharing with you soon.” Everything But The Girl shared in a statement published on Instagram

After pleasantly surprising everyone with “Nothing Left To Lose” and “Caution To The Wind,” the music demonstrates their prowess as second to none. Topped off with Tracey’s vocals, they are emotionally powerful, nuanced glorious treats.

In these productions, they specifically exhibit they are bona fide melody-makers. A signal to all they remain a musical force to be reckoned with.
