Wakefield four piece Skinny Living first earned themselves a reputation for coming out with an indie-acoustic sound. It’s a style which partially shone a light on their songwriting skills for the greatest extent, whilst effectively highlighting the soulfully emotive, vocal tones of front man Ryan Johnston. Just lately the band have begun adding electronically ambient layers into their emotively charged soundscape which is proving to be a very good move on their part. It’s taken their musicality up another level and more than ever before, is making them ones to watch.
We made it our mission to catch up with the rising band at British Summer Time and we wanted to find out more about the development in sound which has spawned their beautiful new single “Why” and wade deeper in on the story behind the lyrics. We also talked about the fun concept of the bands recent UK Living Room Tour and how that worked out.
