It was quite, coincidental that the video for “EXHALE” by Kenzie should arrive in my inbox. When, last week, the effects of being in lockdown these past few months, finally snuck up on me. I’ve since taken a couple of days to recentre, retune my chakras and restore harmonic balance. I have many more unopened emails than usual, but, hey, I feel ready to take on the world again. Picking back up with “EXHALE,” I can fully identify with the need to prioritise our self wellbeing above all else. The feeling of being overwhelmed, on the verge of, crash and burn does have a habit of coming on quick if you don’t heed the warning signs. Those were my thoughts. What does Kenzie have to say on the matter?
The single is an upbeat reminder to listeners to release their pressures and stresses. “You, been working double-time to catch your breath, the tempo speeded up but don’t stop yet. You need to, you need to ex-hale so let everything go baby you in control.” She sings. (All told. These are words I could have done with hearing, two, three days earlier last week.) While being one of the most influential rising stars of Generation Z and avid Tik Tok creator, Kenzie got her self-care shizz sorted out. To be fair, as the music video details. She does appear to be luckier than most to have an Olympic sized swimming pool, to make use of and relax in, at the family home in Pittsburgh.
You noticed the feature on the track from Sia, right? I was just going to get to that. Kenzie’s full name is Mackenzie Ziegler. BOOM! All fit’s into place now. The lightbulb has gone on, of the Grammy-nominated pop phenomenon’s (Sia) creative collaborations with Kenzie’s older sister Maddie. Strange times or not, if you have a high-profile name in your address book, what’s the point in having it pencilled in if you can’t call in a favour. Anyways, I prefer Sia featuring on pop songs as opposed to dance tracks. To be fair, I needed to hear this song whether Sia was or wasn’t on it. In the end, I obviously, did look at it closer because of her involvement, of course.
Now that’s what I call electronic pop!
