You know, I was left feeling a little bummed out when Alphabeat announced their recent show in London. I so wanted to go, but it just so happened to coincide with my summer vacation which I had already had booked up. However, I also knew in my heart of hearts that the band would soon have something new up their sleeves to have me smiling again. Here it is. The band proudly, announced their fourth studio album “I Don’t Know What’s Cool Anymore” releases 1st, November. Plus, the title track is already here for our enjoyment. It acts as our second taste of new material following the release of the jaunty pop track “Shadows“, launched before the band’s comeback showcase at SXSW in March of this year.

One of the most fantastic things about this new song is, actually how glorious it is, that Alphabeat remains pretty unphased about what is deemed the current trends in pop. The Danish band have been on their own vibe all the way through their career. Just because they took some time out, doesn’t mean they should make changes to their undeniable catchy style of music. As the lyrics of the song attest “I’m from ’85, I’m not gonna lie. I don’t know what’s cool anymore.” There are also mentions of being late to the party. “All this new shit might as well admit, I don’t really get it.” They are clearly feeling the effects of the generation gap. They should not worry though because there are heaps of people into, what are they continuing to do. Plus, they must bear this in mind, nobody does endearing, quirky pop like them. And that is really at the crux of why the band are loved so much, by so many. Myself included.

I agree with a few of the comments Alphabeat make about modern music but not all. I’m happy to take that my children tell me, I’m still relatively cool when it comes to the music I listen to. Although I feel certain that my mother would have quite a different opinion about the current state of pop music. But the greatest, thing about music is, it doesn’t matter what you’re into because there’s so much to choose from there is something for everyone to enjoy.
