Here’s a spin on the lyrics to “I Say When“, ‘once you get a taste of Temptress you’ll only want to hear more. The duo’s soothing electronic style is certainly something, I for one, have not been able to get off of my mind, since being introduced to their music via previous singles “Guilty Pleasure” and “What I Want.” What switched me on to the duo was the impressive slow-burning style of production on these guys tracks, which for the most part is all, owing to the bands, artfully crafted DIY aesthetic. It is something, that is explored further on the London based outfit’s latest cut, “I Say When.”
The band co-produced, the track with Chris Zane (Passion Pit, Friendly Fires, St Lucia) & Kosuke Kasza (Holy Ghost!, Eves Karydas), and the video was created by, the band themselves, with the help of friend Lily Newmark. In fact, everything about the song reflects their strong DIY ethic, mores to the point all areas of creative input and output, are executed well. There’s no hype or pretence, coming from this duo they are unaffected by outside influences, as can be, and staying true to their vision feels paramount in all they do.
“I Say When” perfectly encapsulates this fast rising band. Complete with gorgeous synth, calming vocals and introspective lyrics the song manages to be equal parts soothing and captivating. The simplicity of the video, captured when the band threw an impromptu party for Vlad’s birthday and got some of their friends to hold the camera. Makes the poignancy of duo’s lyrics all the more prominent and showcases the delicate instrumentation of the song. With a tight grasp of making, alluring melodies coupled with well-crafted lyrics and sleek production, don’t be surprised if you start hearing their name more sometime soon.
