I completely agree that Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) is a band that has managed to stay relevant even after all these years. Unlike some other bands that rely on their past successes, OMD has always focused on evolving and coming up with new projects. It’s no wonder that they’re still going strong after 40 years in the industry. I would love to see them perform live someday, as I’ve been a fan for a long time.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark is preparing to release its 14th album, “Bauhaus Staircase,” on 27th October. Having unleashed the title track by way of introduction. Noticeably they are not ones to water down the electronic elements or settle for tame lyricism. That just isn’t what they are about, since they have never strayed from setting themselves apart lyrically. Preferring concentrating on gritty topics, covering history or politics, while appreciating art. Hence in this instance, “Bauhaus Staircase” is used as a metaphor for all things creative and good in the world.

“The title is derived from an Oskar Schlemmer painting. He taught at Bauhaus, and created the amazing futuristic costumes for The Triadic Ballet (referenced in the song).” Andy reveals.

This release features a striking animated video concept created by the Hull-based Cine 1080 Studio. The conceptual theme is a futuristic take on classic dystopian novels like “1984” and “Fahrenheit 451,” but with a twist. Instead of book burners, the story features art police who seek to control and censor all forms of creativity. It’s a striking and thought-provoking concept that raises some important questions about the role of art and expression in society.

While treating our ears to immaculate, prestige synth-pop through the lens of prolific, artful lyricism, OMD continues feeding our minds food for thought.

I am excited to hear that OMD will be playing at California’s Darker Waves Festival in November! It sounds like an amazing lineup with New Order, Tears for Fears, Echo & The Bunnymen, Devo, Soft Cell, Psychedelic Furs, The Human League, B-52s and more. I can’t wait to see what other details will be announced for this new chapter… hopeful for a UK tour.
