You may have heard in the news that Lady Gaga is celebrating the ten-year, release anniversary of her sophomore album “Born This Way” with a new special edition of the album. The album which is out this week (June 25th), contains Gaga’s original “Born This Way“ album, along with six new versions of songs reimagined by artists representing and advocating for the LGBTQIA+ community. So far, the collaborators revealed on this project have included Big Freedia, Orville Peck and Kylie Minogue. Today the mystery of which artist has covered, the pop, electro-rock anthem “The Edge Of Glory” has been solved. The privilege of putting a new spin on the track has been bestowed upon Years & Years (Olly Alexander).
Years & Years certainly have given the track some added sparkle. Having always been such a gutsy, powerhouse anthem, the track becomes a much softer, disco-pop version of its former self with Years & Years now in charge. In fact, the vibe is quite different for Years & Years, as well, who with their recent release “Starstruck” switched gears into disco, dance-pop mode.
“When Lady Gaga asked me to remake her iconic track “The Edge Of Glory” for “Born This Way Reimagined“, I said YES MOTHER, and my paws flew into the atmosphere. I’m so happy I got to be a part of this”. Olly Alexander shared over Instagram.
The sax solo from the original 2011 edit has been given the heave-ho on the new update. And, while I’ve been sat, listening to and enjoying what Years & Years have done with the track, I’ve hardly missed it. I have just been dreamily thinking about, how Robyn-like this reimagining sounds. And how great, an asset she would be if asked to participate, in this Tenth Anniversary project. There are still two tracks (“Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)” and “Yoü and I”) on the reimagining tracklist where the artists are yet to be announced. Possible name’s thrown into the Ring? Well, there have been many rumours about Rina Sawayama linking up with Gaga. Cyndi Lauper is a massive advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community – could be interesting. Not long to wait, there are only two more sleeps until I find out how bad these guesses were.
