It takes a lot of determination and hard work to live out your wildest dreams and carve out a career in pop, these days. Not least for self-made, independent artists who pour every inch of their creativity and cash into making their aspirations in music, a reality. Making your presence felt in the music industry is no mean feat, at all, but I’d like to introduce you to a former college student who just couldn’t stay out of music and has chosen to pursue it over forging a safer business career. Taking strides ahead in the pop realm, Nashville, newcomer LO is the epitome of an emerging artist who is doing everything from the ground up. She struck out with a sparkling debut offering “Good Good” last year and was quick to pick up a lot of nice buzz on Apple’s “Breaking Pop” and “Hot Tracks” playlists, Spotify’s “Fresh Finds” and “Hiptronix” playlists without any label or PR help. Her first release of 2018 is “Drumline” another straight-up catchy, pop song which is sure to set her on course, replicating similar success to that earned off of her infectious debut effort.
The one-woman, powerhouse who writes, produces, and plays all of her own material has now signed a publishing deal with Prescription Songs, but the DIY aesthetic is something which LO is keen to hang on to. When making refreshingly, addictive pop she’s on a win with “Drumline.” She stakes her claim with a distinctive voice so, charming and alluring, it creates a magical feel, from the slightest of sweetest sounds.
Speaking about the track, LO had this to say, “Drumline” was an absolute blast to create. I had been living with the concept ever since my days as a dancer and wanted to create something that would showcase my playful and quirky nature. The whole time I was working on “Drumline” with my collaborator Breakfast, I kept saying, ‘I want it to sound how watermelon juicy fruit gum tastes’. I literally, wanted to create a bubblegum pop gem that would let people experience magical emotion for three minutes at a time.”
I definitely, feel she’s achieved pop gold with “Drumline“, it is fuelling my excitement about what comes next, I’ll be on alert and ready when it drops.
