Australia has a good reputation for producing stellar singer-songwriters who breakthrough into the charts on a global scale. X Factor Australia contestant Matt Gresham is another hopeful artist with big aspirations to cast his music net far and wide, reeling in a bigger slice of, international action with his easy on the ear, mellow stylized tracks. Matt’s career took a definite upturn after his showcase set at SXSW in, 2016 on the back of this he inked up with Warner Music Germany, and is now beginning to release new music through the label. With single “Home” being the precursor, to his upcoming Warner debut album “Who Am I Now“.
The latest release is written, in collaboration with fellow breakout LA songwriter Jaymes Young. The two artists both write emotively and with an earnest style to their lyrics which, carries through to the mellow sonic timbres of their melodic, balladeering songs. Teaming up with Young seems to have helped Matt develop his style further, because “Home” is ready, to go pop just that little bit more than his previous alt-acoustic efforts.
“Home” was written after Matt left his native Rockham, Australia to spend three years travelling and documents the complexity of emotions travel stirs up when on a journey of self-discovery, new experiences, and cultural inspiration. “The song is a reflection of the search for, home within myself,” Matt explains of the latest release, “The search for freedom has no destination, so it’s a lesson for, myself to keep moving forward, whether physically or mentally.”
Having poured countless hours of inspiration and emotion into it, “Home” is the sound of Matt’s songwriting talents maturing. The addictive melody bursts into life in the hook-laden chorus helping the anthem for the modern wanderer, to deliver a message of reflection and hope.
