I recently posted on the blog about Calvin Harris and this started me thinking that maybe I should start looking into more producer-led releases again. Although I’ve not written about Jai Wolf or any of his aliases before. I received a notification about his latest collaboration with singer-songwriter BANKS and their new track “Don’t Look Down.” I have to say, I was pleasantly impressed with their anthemic dance-pop record. What’s interesting to me is that I usually associate BANKS with R&B-styled pop music and Jai Wolf with dreamlike electronica creations. Therefore, the anthemic nature of “Don’t Look Down” feels somewhat like new territory for these two artists. It’s exciting to see them explore and experiment with new sounds.
As a matter of fact. When I first heard this track, I was blown away by the epic and cinematic introduction. Jai has really outdone himself with this electrifying-pop stomper. “Don’t Look Down” debuted at Coachella and is written by an all-star cast of pop Illuminati, including Jai Wolf and BANKS, as well as Matthew Koma, Lauren Mayberry (CHVRCHES), Martin Doherty (CHVRCHES), and Ryland Blackinton (Cobra Starship). The CHVRCHES influence is definitely present in the lyrics and vocals. I could easily imagine Lauren Mayberry singing this tune. “Don’t Look Down” is in keeping with her style.
I just love this track – because it’s so empowering! Not only does it get us moving on the dance floor, but the lyrics are easily relatable. It’s all about taking the leap of faith into something new, no matter how scared or uncertain you are. I think we all struggle with that at times, but this song really encourages us to push through those doubts and go for it. It’s a great reminder to trust ourselves and our instincts.
In addition to the new single, Jai Wolf is embarking on a North American Tour starting August 9 in Phoenix, AZ. He will be performing at iconic venues such as Brooklyn Mirage and The Greek Theatre where he will be performing his new music as well as fan favorites. Full tour dates HERE
