At this time last year, on-the-rise singer-songwriter Millie Turner was enjoying being picked out as one of the first fifty acts announced for The Great Escape festival 2019. She played an exclusive showcase in support of this last November. The good news is since her spellbinding performance at the festival in May, she continues goes from strength to strength. Has signed with AWAL recordings. Teamed up in collaboration with H&M clothing store. Just released her second EP, and has cooly, announced she’ll be opening up for Tove Lo on tour next year in March. What more can I add? A listen to “January” the opening track from Millie’s eclectically good, new “Hide+Seek” EP. I can assure it will keep your ears happy if you enjoy, lush, beautiful alternative-pop like that made by Marina or Dido.
“January” represents an idea for me. A time where there’s this internal pressure to do more, be more, start again, relive your life, forget that you’re human” explains Turner, who wrote January as self awareness notes to herself, continuing “In reality I’m a mess and make mistakes all the time, and this song is a parody for the reality that “January” brings. Take me to January, where I can make more mistakes and live like a normal human growing and self-improving in my own way. In the meantime, I will spill the milk.”
The song is also apart of a collaboration with H&M where she’s designed illustrations to feature on their newest line of clothing. I consider it is a first-class representation of Millie’s authentic style of artistry. She’s greatly accomplished and astonishingly consummate in her output. It is an awesome, achievement to deliver a track which is both motivational, and inspirational in the one sweep. It coalesces because of her deep awareness and unique artistry. There is a definite growth in instrumentation, lyrics and vocal performance by the teenager since the release of 2017 debut track “Underwater.” Still, with the understanding that this is just the beginning, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Millie Turner.
