There has been an industry buzz about chill electronic duo Majik over the last year. It is clear, to see why this is because the newcomer’s style draws influence from multiple genres enabling them to pique interest from many sources. The backbone is definitely, electronic but the bands signature sound also touches upon hip-hop, urban and rap. While I am not the biggest of urban or rap fans, oddly on occasion if the chemistry is right, I find myself enjoying a style of music that, when written on paper, I wouldn’t ordinarily be keen, about. Majik are rule breakers in this respect, for me, their super current sound is definitely, on point and unlocks their creative potential to push the limits and continue growing.

The last eighteen months have seen Majik release a handful of singles, recently they announced and unleashed “Under the Influence” their debut EP. The collection of tracks plays to the duo’s strengths of versatility and creating a genre-defying sound. Finely balancing the facets of soulful, urban hip-hop swagger, chilled electronic pop and abundant with intelligent lyricism throughout. “Under the Influence” is melodic and contemporary yet raw and emotional, mixes melancholy with that silver lining of hope running a fine line between harsh realities and sweet dreams.

Up until now the only emerging electronic duo I’ve been invested in, this year was Shy Luv but Majik’s slow-burning, dark production and intelligent lyricism has now got me on board, and interested.

Majik have an EP launch party on 16th November at London’s famed institution The Social, not surprisingly it’s nearly sold out but, there are a few last tickets available via Ticketweb.
