It might come as a surprise to some of you that I haven’t written about the Australian alt-electronic pop artist CXLOE before. Afterall since first appearing on X Factor Australia she now has more than a few, recordings under her belt. The Sydney native has taken her time working her charm on me. The arrival of “One and Lonely” is where my lightbulb went off. And where I felt most convinced by the direction of the music, the artistry and her general singer-songwriter vibe.

Also, I like her breathy vocals on this track. She seems especially connected to the song. I could really pick up on the bittersweet feelings of loneliness brought about by having to work away from home and without her partner. Which happens a lot when you’re a musician, or in the entertainment business. Although, presently, it is somewhat not happening, of course. On this work more than any other CXLOE rolls with the emotions, giving a goosebump-inducing performance as she airs her grievances about feeling pangs of guilt at leaving her partner behind so much. Her vocals are soft and full of sentiment that you’d feel her voice was about to crack under the pressure of these mixed emotions.

CXLOE’s style is such, that what she feels in the fullness of her heart impacts and translates into her songwriting. I have been quietly loving that she loves her pop chops and is equally keen on featuring electronic elements in her work. I think she gives her best package of such on “One and Lonely” where she beautifully crafts, intense emotions into the topic of a pop sensible sounding song. Here she is being, totally fresh, totally, sincere and uber dreamy as if she were Australia’s own breezy pop cousin of Lennon Stella.
