Lucas Nord

Swedish production based emerging artiste Lucas Nord is a name which we have been noticing circulating around the periphery of pop for a fair amount of time now. Since his debut we’ve witnessed Lucas strike up alliances with fellow up-and-coming Swedish acts Urban Cone and Tove Lo, with the latter’s “Run To Love” assisting to raise his profile to no end.

Whilst, we must remember that Nord first appeared on the scene when both Madeon and Avicii began to earn presence, Nord has somewhat simmered away in the background and from what I can make out maybe figuring out his place in the once uber crowded Swedish production arena.

Far be it for me to say this, but things do appear to have panned out a bit in this area and if ever there was a window of opportunity for Lucas to forge ahead with a fully-fledged breakthrough, it’s seems to me that this could well be the optimum time to do so.

Just recently we highlighted that Nord had underground a slight change in direction via new album “Company” lead single “Faking”, whereby we noticed a shift nodding towards a house served sound married with a pop aesthetic. However, it felt a comfortable fit for Lucas’s immaculately observed beatmaking.

The sophomore single has now arrived in the R’n’B house assertive mix of “Don’t Need Your Love” and whilst, it actually dropped a few weeks ago, it has now been graced with a visual treatment to further give weight to the “Company” album’s release also.

Do you know what, it stands out to me that this is a track that could have easily been assumed as the work of Disclosure, but it’s ALL Lucas Nord alright, right to the core of everything which has gone into the making of this; beats, production, songwriting and vocals et al.

In making the “Don’t Need Your Love” video Lucas’s intention wasn’t to create a concept that adhered like glue to the break-up narrative of the song, but to nevertheless convey a little of this message via a darkly captured performance accented clip of the track instead. In pressing play on this, you’ll see that the presentation evokes a strong sense of introspection and moving on, so by the looks of it Lucas has nailed all that he set out to do!

Anyways it’s all sounding pretty lit!
