Prides 2

No sooner had I waxed lyrical of “Break Over You” the recent Draper produced synth-pop banger collaboration featuring Stewart Brock of Prides, which I had thought would be my only hope of seeing something new from the band in a while. That I noticed upon some curious activity on the band’s social media, befitting that they might be rolling out something new, far sooner than I conceived possible.

It looked as Prides were taking a leaf out of The 1975’s media tactics, but the Prides familiar logo became cast in a shadow of grey. The cannae lads didn’t leave us Prides fans hanging for long though, before the merest cheeky teaser clip also joined in the social media gathering.

The arrival of new single “Rome” has brought with it a degree of change for the Glasgow band. Stewart along with Callum are the face of the band, whilst Lewis has now taken on a production role.

Biggest of all is the key switch-up in Prides always powering pop sound though. Never threat the synths and melody nailed hooks are still very much the predominant factor at least when speaking of “Rome“, but the addition of a more guitar heavy structure, dare I say quite a bit impressionably Bastille statuesque, are now giving the band a new lease of life.

Well I’m now as curious as anyone to know, whether this signifies more singles in the offering. New album, tour, the works… possibilities? All will out when Stewart and Callum are ready to reveal all.

In the meantime, let’s take a little from what the lyrics of “Rome” are telling us “Rome wasn’t built in a day” OK it’s about moving forward and achieving goals. Fancy that, somewhat telling of where they are headed per-chance? Of course, I think every pointer goes to cementing these facts!
