AtrakA couple months ago, we checked out the latest collaboration from the super Canadian DJ A-Trak ft. Jamie Lidell entitled We All Fall Down.

If you remember the track, it covered a very deep theme of how we as humans are not truly immortal. With the soulful vocals of Jamie Lidell met with the heavy electronic melody drove us deep into a thoughtful perspective. No human is meant to be idolized as perfect, because we all have our faults.

Now, with the very thought provoking track comes a video that takes very little focus on the appearance of A-Trak to allow the song’s message to become more visually prevalent. Set in a country western bar, We All Fall Down takes young women that seem to be raised up on a pedestal as star features for the establishment and places them on a mechanical bull for the enjoyment of the male spectator.

When you look at the video, it is as if the mechanical bull is a symbolism for ego. As it becomes stronger, the women all fall off. The camera slows in on each of their decent to the mat highlighting their fall is not graceful. Your idols will always have some fault you will not like.

Yet, there is one very strong stand out section of the video. When the song hits the bridge where Jamie sings I had pictures of you watching over me. The rider is the most stable and has the most graceful exit. It’s seems to be a message being conveyed that you should believe in yourself and your own strength, don’t waste your time on what could be a false idol.

By taking a very popular genre and tweaking it to be thought provoking, A-Trak brings the power of music back to life. It’s here to make us love, smile, and most of all think about life’s toughest subjects once again.
