Birdy

Over recent months the EQ inbox has had a pounding of press releases roll in, in relation to emerging newcomer Frances and whilst I find her vocals to be quite lovely, they haven’t so much moved me in a way that I’ve found her to be so terribly exciting yet.

The same viewpoint had applied to the young pop chanteuse named Birdy. I say ‘had’ because the current single “Keeping Your Head Up” is such a dreamy audio delight which proves inextricably hard to pick weakness at or dislike.

Let’s just say there is truth in Birdy’s comment when speaking about forthcoming album “Beautiful Lies” as being her ‘coming of age record’ and the biggest confirmation of this comes in the issue of “Keeping Your Head Up”.

I hear Foxes. I hear Rae Morris. I hear Florence in full effect here, and as I am quite aurally entranced by them all, what Birdy has emulated is all the more utterly gorgeousness.

Only to be completed by a sheen of pop artistry mystique by this hauntingly imposing but stunning visual accompaniment, I am truly captive under the spell of the newly re-birthed Birdy. Wonder what else she might have waiting for us up the sleeve of her kaftan? I am now more curious of Birdy than I have ever been. I love when pop throws out the unexpected don’t you?! It’s so much more thrilling than Zayn going overboard on a sexually themed video….I mean did we see that coming?……errr unsurprisingly Y-E-S.
