Remember when former JLS band member Aston Merrygold struck out, launching his solo career last year with the soulfully funky pop morsel “Get Stupid”? It was quite a departure in sound wasn’t it from the harmonized boyband pop bops that became the signature styling of JLS?

The radio airwaves were awash with Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor getting it musically on in homage to Marvin Gaye and even the de-lovely Nathan Sykes brought throwback soul back into the spotlight as a way to roll out their new careers. Aston’s hella funky pop diddy too, gave good a fresh perspective on the whole revival that flared up for a brief minute.

Get Stupid” sparked a phenomenal response from around the globe. The Australians particularly found it rather bonza, sending it platinum! It’s been a crazy whirlwind ride of international promotions and the follow-up single has taken a whole year through to land.

No news affirmed yet of when the debut album will actually drop, but it is on its way. It’ll be sometime during the first half of next year we suspect! Yet we are regaled in some info, that it is made-up in mind of many of Aston’s musical influences from Michael Jackson, James Brown to Justin Timberlake.

This second single from Aston “I Ain’t Missing You” returns to the here and now. A slice of dancefloor abandonment that’s spun through with urban pop flair and a flow of high energy created by decorated production outfit LDN Noise.

Guess this is where we would have imagined Aston’s solo artist sound to stem from really. We know the boy can dance, so yo, no surprise he’s back to dropping the moves, left, right and centre stage in the accompanying visual. Bit sad that Aston’s quiff has had the snip, we were really quite in awe of that towering tuft of expertly coiffured hair!
