Fitz And The Tantrums

Don’t we all like a song which allows a little extra of listener participation than just cooing out a few vocals? Like the addition of some cheery whistles, some choreographed dance moves or maybe something as simple as throwing in a few happy hand claps. When it falls to summer there is always the opportunity to cut loose a tad more on the quirky side, especially when off on our holidays.

Put such an exuberant song in the masterful hands of a group of pop stalwarts such as L.A. outfit Fitz and the Tantrums and there is every chance that they’ll cook up an addicting pop tune which straddles the fine line between all out cheese and fun in a commendable direction.

Strangely enough the band have turned out such a track, in their aptly named feel good ditty “Handclap”.

Being pretty obvious in their intentions, no prizes for guessing what is required of listener participation here!

The band hit us with everything from an infectious beat, melodic riffs a plenty, an amalgamation of styles, hip-pop through quirky electronic sessions, topping off with rounds of rapid pitter pattered handclaps. Managing to retain some cool whilst, at the same indulging upon a feel-good trajectory of vibes.

You’d be right to think on this one as bit of an earworm! I caught my first listen of “Handclap” a few weeks ago, it definitely left an impression with me but I was more than anything wanting to see what the music video would offer up.

I no longer need to wonder about that, since it has duly arrived in readiness for the June 10th release of the bands self-titled album.

A dance squad bend and body shape for all they are worth, they do not need any excuses to freak out because they pretty much turn up the tilt of street-dance embracement with enthusiastic commitment.

Never fear, they are nothing so outwardly outrageous as PSY!, but it does ignite a spark of fun in a way that they make it OK to be a tad on the silly side, in that they pull it all off as being ambiguous in style.

Think Kylie’s video for “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” coming head-to-head with UK street dance act Diversity and you’ll be some way into the artistic vision that is the video for “Handclap”. If you haven’t a clue about anything I’ve just fitted into that description, just press play and get those hands ready for some clapping action.
