Wow, it’s hard to believe that it’s been over two decades since Will Young won the first season of Pop Idol, UK. Unquestionably, out of all the music reality TV show winners that have emerged over the years. Will Young has undoubtedly made the biggest impact with his music career. Furthermore, he’s managed to achieve success not only in music but also as an actor and an advocate for mental health and LGBTQIA+ rights. Yet, today, however, Will is back and focusing on his music again, with the release of “Falling Deep.” The first single is from his upcoming ninth studio album “Light It Up,” set to come out on August 9th through BMG.

Will’s fans have long known him for his soulful ballads and pop tracks that tug at the heartstrings. However, the singer has been absent from the brighter and more joyful side of pop for quite some time. This is why his new album, “Light It Up,” is such a thrilling departure from his recent work. Will has recognized a desire to explore new sounds and styles. Moreover, his fans can expect to hear a fresh and exciting take on pop music with this new release.

“I think for me it was about finally feeling more content and being able tgo back to embracing joyous unashamed pop music. I really hope this is the go-to pop album for a dance, for a cry and for a celebration. I know I do all three with it.” Will explains.

Similarly, the single “Falling Deep” marks a significant departure in the evolving sound of Will Young. Showcasing a perfect blend of 80s nostalgia and modern soulful influence, this song is a refreshing change from the ordinary. The result is a captivating blend of The Police meets The Weeknd. And if my ears do not deceive me, I also detect a nod to The Pointer Sisters thrown in for good measure.

The music video for “Falling Deep” is a dynamic and lively production that exudes a musical-like aura. The video is directed by Samuel Douek (Anne-Marie, Tom Walker and Mabel). This video features an ensemble of dancers around the same age as Will. With its mesmerising choreography, captivating visuals, and catchy tune, “Falling Deep” will appeal to anyone who loves great music.

Will said: “I wanted to work with dancers my age as I think sometimes there can be such a focus on youth in the dance world for all performers, and older performers come with such grace and wisdom. It was a fantastic day working with people my age. We all knew what a Nintendo Gameboy was and I think especially women can be overlooked as they age, so it felt very important to work with men and women for the project”.
