Nina Nesbitt

In a week when part Scot, part Swede Nina Nesbitt shook up the pop landscape by out growing her guitar folk roots and turned herself into everybody’s newest pop darling, you might have noticed I didn’t full-speed ahead jump on the trend. This isn’t because I didn’t like the new sound, on the contrary I find it to be very pleasant in a Foxes kind of likeness. Being informed that the “Chewing Gum” video was on its way, I thought I’d wait out just these extra few hours before delivering my thoughts on it.

Nina’s now all growed-up and she has a new popstar hair do to prove it! “Chewing Gum” is totally something that I’d quite expect Foxes to come out with though and on that score, it is all rather the case that I feel like I’ve heard it all before already. There is so much of that in today’s modern pop anyway that I can’t really pick fault at the song on this basis.

The lyrics are mature and intelligent and this style of pop well suits the smokey intonations of Nina’s sultry vocal. The bare bones of it is, I really DO quite like this.

I am glad too that I waited for the video to drop because it’s of bone fide popstar quality. Occurs to me that Nina’s being re-styled as a peroxide Demi Lovato and there’s certainly been some big bucks thrown into the making of this sassy-cum-saucy video. It’s all very look at me, I am grown up, know myself now and am musically re-born.
