As a first time listener to Rothwell, I’ve been quick to understand the emerging singer-songwriter is a hot talent, intent on aiming high. Her impressive resume boasts support slots alongside Justin Bieber and opening for Boyzone and Louise Redknapp. This weekend you can catch her supporting yet more, chart-topping artists both at Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend and the Manchester Pride celebrations. Rothwell has plenty of pop releases in her repertoire, fit for the purpose of dazzling a new audience. But if there is ever a good time to unleash a new danceable electro-pop tune, the busy weekend ahead is the right time to do so. “Follow When You’re Dancing” is sure to warm up the crowds. It has energy sprinkled with sparky attitude, these being just the right ingredients to get everybody punching the air and have the best time bopping about.
Rothwell says, “‘Follow When You’re Dancing‘ is a song for the lonely hearts. I think there’s so much to be said for mislead youth and loss of self-value in my generation and I wanted this song to expose weaknesses suffered by most, but to also express that’s perfectly okay and actually what makes us, us. One for the dance floor, margarita in hand and inhibitions out the bloody door! You. Do. You.”
Dance-pop tracks often get bad press for being light on lyrical content, well this cannot be said of “Follow When You’re Dancing“. Rothwell clearly has some life learning and wisdom to share. On this track, she delivers empowered truths encased in a classic disco style, both of which are always good to hear. The essence of Rothwell’s message is simple. Follow your dreams, be who you want to be. If this latest in a run of mass appealing tracks are anything to go by. The song further demonstrates, Rothwell sits in my sights as a dynamically, astute emerging artist who has an impressively, bright future ahead. I consider her, a bright light in the world of dance-pop, while also being a burning example of femininity, power, and hope.
