Hello EQs. I’m pretty much sick of "Random Rants" so instead we are renaming this regular feature, "More Hot Than Hot". Hot right? Thought so. So here’s what’s "hot" right now in EQ’s little disco-fueled world…
Power popster and newly cast (and might I add a-dorable) Ugly Betty co-star Val Emmich is bursting onto the pop scene. I’m really really liking his punchy new single "Get On With It" which you can check out on his official website along with some other tracks from his album "Little Daggers" which comes out very soon. He kinda has a Billy Idol thing about his voice which totally brings me back.
And speaking of Mr. Billy Idol – Have you got your copy of his new greatest hits CD "Idolize Yourself" yet? I couldn’t resist actually – I used to swoon over Billy in the 80’s. That black leather and blond hair thing just went a long way with me. There is a cool new contest running on this link where you can win a copy of the album and litho of the album artwork signed Billy himself. Yes please.
New electronic band Eisbär are debuting their new song in the way of "Pretty Phone Ghost" which you can take a listen to on their MySpace page. The song is about two strangers who talk on the phone for hours, but have never met each other in real life. Sounds a little creepy but cool! My obsession with New Kids On The Block isn’t dying yet either. Their new album "The Block" is officially released on 3 September and I have already pre-ordered mine. I’ve been on a massive hunt on eBay to try and find a vintage men’s t-shirt too so I can wear it to the next Electroqueer@Barcode club night. It’s so old, it’s new! It’s so uncool – it’s cool! I just noticed that every New Kids On The Block video ever made is now on iTunes too. Sony sure are cashing in on their comeback aren’t they?
Update: New Kids on the Block will perform live at the HMV Store on Oxford Street in London on September 8th at 1PM! After, they will answer fan questions and sign copies of their CD "The Block".
Who is Luigi Masi? He’s fucking cool – that’s who he is. Just don’t call him the UK’s Justin Timberlake. He hates that. His new single "Strobelight" is dropping soon too and from what I heard, it’s gonna be an EQ smash. Having already opened for Girls Aloud and Sugababes on tour – he’s off to a running start. You’ve been warned…Move over Darin…you got company.
Lady Gaga sporting her disco stick at MuchMusic
EQ reader and aspiring pop star Will-W went and saw Lady Gaga at an appearance at MuchMusic in Toronto recently and taped her performance of "Love Game" in which you can see Gaga working her disco stick with full force. Will also commented on some juicy tidbits about Lady Gaga’s rivalry with Katy Perry. He says "Lady Gaga had some not-so-stellar things to say about fellow chart-rival Katy Perry, who kept her at bay in the #2 position on the Canadian Billboard Hot 100 Chart for many consecutive weeks while Perry’s hit "I Kissed a Girl" remained on top. Lady Gaga said that she "doesn’t think Katy Perry has ever kissed a girl, to be honest". When VJ Leanne asked about her sexuality, Lady Gaga indeed confirmed, "I like boys. I like girls. I like sex." Spicy!
And finally – Moby unleashes his latest collaboration with The Freemasons called "Disco Lies". FUCKING HOT. The video is completely bonkers too. Here we have Colonel Sanders of KFC getting his just due from a revenge-ridden wacked-out chicken all the while foxy disco diva delivering the vocal goods throughout. It’s just awesome – you have to watch and be mesmerized.
