Many moons ago, you may remember an EQ Music Live event of 2010 with a performer by the name of Mercedes. As does the seasons, there are a lot of things in life that change. As for Mercedes, 2015 brought a fresh start. Like a hot set of fireworks, (Now known as) Iris Gold she blasted back onto the pop scene in a blaze of glory. With worldwide headlining live shows, opening slots for Taylor Swift, Robbie Williams, Erasure and Blur; she’s back in 2016 to take that pop infused hip hop straight back to your ear drums. We’ve known for a while that she has quite the sound unlike anything you’ve ever heard this century. Iris Gold takes us on a journey of how to really be cool just like the king of cool himself in her new single Steve McQueen. Proving, it takes one to know one.

Iris Gold takes a route to hip-hop that no other female MC on the market does with the single Steve McQueen. By taking inspirations from a myriad of decades and combining them into one, you’re presented the ultimate nostalgic track with a modern flare. ‘Steve McQueen’ is heavy in early hip hop influences with a very rich bassline and percussion driving the melody with a kiss of electronics on the back end. Then in the intro, you’re hit with this classic element that hip hop has never seen or at least hasn’t seen this century…a guitar! You can feel her 60’s/70’s influences coming into play. Throughout the song, Iris Gold brings out this lyrical element that you can look cool, but it’s important to feel cool too.

When rappers these days have lost all touch of poetic power, it’s hard to find someone who can actually dig back to the roots of the rhyme. Now, to have a fresh female face on the game has turned hip hop by a complete 180. Iris Gold takes all those elements and throws us back into calm pop meets rap vibe which everyone can truly appreciate.
