In Sweden, the Melodifestivalen heats have just kicked off and will be held for the next six weeks. It’s an exciting time as the competition seeks out a participant for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. As is widely known, Sweden is known for taking their Eurovision selection process very seriously, and so this event dominates the music scene there. Although notably, the competition is not only for established artists but also for emerging acts to make a name for themselves.

Coincidently, I’ve been thinking about this topic also, and I couldn’t agree more on these points. This is because strangely, I am not hearing about Swedish pop newcomers as often as I used to. However, with that said, I recently came across a press release about a young Swedish music artist named Hanna Ögonsten. She has managed to stand out with her latest release, “Medicine.” Furthermore, it’s exciting electro-pop and worth checking out.

Hanna’s approach to electronic pop is truly boundary-pushing. By skillfully blending drum’n’bass and glitchcore elements, she creates a fresh and exciting sound that sets her apart from the crowd. Her music is reminiscent of Charli XCX‘s dynamic and experimental style during her hyper-pop and PC music eras. What’s truly impressive about Hanna is that she doesn’t conform to the Schlager or radio-friendly pop styles that dominate the Swedish music scene. Her refusal to follow the status quo is a bold and admirable move that deserves recognition.

Hanna’s songwriting is truly arresting. In “Medicine,” she touches on a topic that so many of us can relate to – using distractions as a means of coping with life’s challenges. It’s amazing how music can provide such comfort and healing during tough times. I’m glad that Hanna found solace in writing lyrics and creating melodies. It’s a reminder of the incredible power of music and its ability to help us overcome difficult situations.

Hanna explains further…
Medicine” is about using these same distractions as a lifeline to cover up the danger and risk of obsessing with someone. If you crave the idea of someone’s love like medicine, the chances of getting hurt are equally painful.”

Hanna Ögonsten is an amazing artist who delivers outstanding electronic pop music with a dynamic edge. Her music is truly captivating and engaging, and her assertive and confident style is absolutely mesmerizing. As an emerging artist, she is definitely someone to keep an eye on.
