We found them to be tantalizingly cool. The ‘them’ in question pertaining to experimental electronica duo Plaitum, who we first picked up upon a couple of years ago now, after learning of their Kitsuné celebrated, emotively bass heavy production piece ‘Geisha’.

Plaitum’s association with Kistuné stood them a greater audience on the back of which, Abi Dersiley and Matt Canham found themselves gaining quite a degree of interest, amounting in various festival and gig support slots.

Lately the pairing have been working up some new material and thankfully now, in revealing some of the fruit of their labour, it is evident that the experimentally thought upon duo have built upon their already encouragingly impressionable, signature based waveforms to at last realise their debut EP.

In actuality Plaitum have rocked-up some awesome support, being none other than Adele’s producer Paul Epworth, who has prudently assigned them to his Wolf Tone label, no less.

Spectrally projected “LMHY” fulfils the introduction to the eponymous EP. Delivered of elegantly chic, dark pop noir that simmers with a sinisterly intriguing undercurrent of witchedy pop relish. Dersiley’s vocal holds a distinctively gothic allure about it which noticeably filters out an added ether of tenebrously dramatic expression.

Ethereal pop hasn’t sounded so good in so long, well not since Cathedrals snuck out the brilliantly diverse “OOO AAA’ last year anyways.

May Plaitum now go forth and conquer all idiosyncratic seeking souls with their freakishly stylish eccentricity. They are one up on their number with myself suitably entranced by their enthusiastically, visionary electronica already.
