Should you have been counting down the days until Gwen Stefani came back with a new track other than Christmas ditties. Your chalkboard must now either be looking very pretty or messy being that you’ve tallied-up a lot of days. The wait is now over, the dynamic songstress has put her festive costume aside and has begun teasing new music for 2021. She has done this in the most appropriate Gwen Stefani fashion, by unleashing a quirky teaser single fittingly titled “Let Me Reintroduce Myself.”

“This song is a way of saying I’m back with new music. It’s a fun, light-hearted song because I got inspired, and hopefully to bring a little bit of joy. The idea was to write a song that had a bit of a nostalgic feeling to it. So I think musically, it reminds you of back in the day, going back to where I started musically, which was with ska and reggae. I’m still the same me but here’s, something a little bit new in case you feel like hearing a little bit more of me,” says Stefani.

If like me, you have a preference for the quirkiest version of Gwen, the sparky, the altogether aloof but real and honest, version. The lyrics of this new track will ultimately send you giddy. She’s clearly in a playful mood when she sings such phrases as, “cause you know I’m not organic, and it tastes great, I already gave you bananas.” In among the crazy lyrics Gwen has some serious points to make. she is adamant to clearly establish “This is not a comeback, I’m recycling me.” Brilliant, could she be any more 2020 conscious than to factor in (although maybe an unintentional) nod about climate change as well.

Truth is you cannot but smile, whistle or hum along to this song. The rhythm borrows clear influence from reggae, but the song itself is pop with bells on. (thankfully no bells feature on this track.) In the mid of December, this is good enough for me. If Gwen might consider adding in a twist more of electronic styling on subsequent tracks. I’ll cover her back with appreciatively worded reviews.
