At the moment, I am finding it challenging keeping up to speed with all of the pop acts celebrating milestone anniversaries with tours and new albums. Likewise, many of my all-time favorite bands currently fall under this category. Of these well-loved pop acts, as yet, I have not mentioned the pop group Blue. As a matter of fact, they are celebrating 20 years in music with a tour and the release of a new album (the band’s sixth), “Heart & Soul“.
During the year, Blue (Simon, Antony, Lee and Duncan) have released three suitably soulful new singles. All three have in some way linked up with the soundscapes heard in their biggest hits of their illustrious back catalogue. Being a personal favourite of mine, I have been waiting for them to return a little further to the pop sound of their “One Love” album days. Their song “Heart & Soul“, the title track from the upcoming album, brings back a mix of pop, soul and R&B fusion that only Blue creates.
In keeping with the vibe of a band celebrating their 20th anniversary, “Heart & Soul” comes with a lyric video, inclusive of footage that spans the entire musical career of the group. The clip covers gems such as “Fly By II,” “Too Close,” and “One Love” through to the present day. Whereas, I am not usually a lyric video fan. I do, however, really like this compilation-styled one for “Heart & Soul“. The clip so warmly echoes the past, with a good selection of Blue nostalgia.
Listening to “Heart & Soul” Blue has lost none of their silky smoothness. All the guys appear in fine voices. Individually their vocal chops sound as dreamy as they have ever been.
