For now Portland Oregon homeboy Jake London, has set aside his companion in acoustic guitar to go into something more of an electronic pop direction.
Earning his stripes as a singer-songwriter, the gifted artiste already has a steadfast understanding of pop song mechanics and takes on this new challenge with a good proportion of vigour.
Sporting the project, stage name of City Of Neon, the music every way lives up the to new identity through a dynamic synth wall of sound which projects itself with an 80’s demographic, adhereing to the period that spawned the original ‘Drive’ soundtrack.
Maybe by adding a touch more slap bass into the mix City Of Neon’s debut effort might have warranted a passing resemblance to Chromeo in likeness, but there could only ever be one Dave 1 and P-Thugg you know, god love them boys.
City Of Neon pulls in a creditable debut though, which sure does punch above an acoustic guitar in weight, at any rate.
If you haven’t had an 80’s movie night in so long, a spin or two of “Electric Love” will soon see you right in shaping the mood and soon have you tracking down your fave Brat Pack flicks, rom-coms and sci-fi blockbusters.
