I Am Karate

It’s true to say, I get chills the instant an I Am Karate melody strikes up!

For the Swedish duo of Erika Sodhl Ahlström and Marta Pettersson show significant candour of creative musicianship and play into the left-of-field tune-path with a visionary fueled artistic aesthetic, that holds great appeal.

We were honoured to introduce the artisan alternative pop of I Am Karate first through the beguiling exquisite release “Elevate”. Yet in keeping of the duo’s experimental natural instincts they give themselves an infinite scope to explore the obscure end that is known as Scandinavian glacial coolness.

To my mind you’ll probably not find a currently unsigned duo who could come anyway near the level of invigorating artistic accomplishment that I Am Karate give, as these ladies are already up there in my estimation with the likes of For BDK, NONONO and Beatrice Eli.

It’s been a quick turn around from the duo’s inception in 2014 straight into producing their debut EP in 2015 but the creative flow is strong on the agenda with I Am Karate. So it is not so much unexpected that Erika and Marta are keen to lend some more of their innovative icy alchemy onto a new release.

A further deliciously dark and twisted take on pop arrives on “Bitter”, which is hosted of an oriental mystique served of airily projected vocals amdist a terrain of shivery visited melody. Aligned perfect with the anguish of heartbreak substance which is furtherto poignantly etched in the song.

In conclusion “Bitter” absolutely affirms that my state of NEW OBESSION with I Am Karate is firmly maintained.
