NickyByrneIt’s that time of the year again. The Eurovision entries are starting to trickle in and we’re getting a little look at what we can expect this upcoming May 10th, 12th, and 14th during the annual Eurovision competition in Sweden.

First up, Ireland’s Nicky Byrne.

You may remember Nicky as one of part of the one part of the wildly successful boy band Westlife. Unfortunately we all grow older and sometimes the greatest bands don’t make it long, Westlife split in 2012. Since the split, Nicky has hosted a variety of television shows and live events throughout Ireland waiting for his time to step back behind the microphone. In early January the rumors began to swirl that he had been chosen to represent the country.

On 13 January Nicky was announced as Ireland’s choice to represent them for the 61st edition of Eurovision with the song Sunlight

A very rich guitar and keys are elements that a lot of boy bands have used quite well since the late 90s. For this track in particular the classic pop melody highlights a sense of positivity and love in the lyrics and vocals by driving home the message that all things are better when you aren’t standing in the darkness. Allow someone to bring you into the light. You never have to be alone. Obviously, someone with boy band experience would know how to deliver such a statement! With a warm melody like sun beginning to kiss your skin, Sunlight is a true testament to the power of love. By taking the elements that Nicky Byrne knows quite well in from his time with Westlife, he has penned a strong contender for the Eurovision crown. Over the past couple of years the winner has used very classic pop or orchestral elements to their advantage. It appears that Nicky Byrne has caught on to that current trend.

For now we’ll have to wait to see how Nicky Byrne does when he hits the Sunlight of the Eurovision stage this May.
