On Friday, EQ@Underbelly took over London’s Hoxton Square again with nine live performances and three DJs…here’s the skinny…

  • Luciana took off like a rocket into space and gave a hot headline performance with tracks “Skin I’m In”, Simon Cowell rant “Say What You Wanna Say” and new single “I Like That”.  There was many o people o bouncing!
  • Luigi Masi almost didn’t make it in the club – getting stopped at the door with his baby face and all, but once inside he wow’d the crowd with “Strangers Again”, “Armed With Love” and “Strobelight”.
  • Rodrigo Moratto was a huge hit on the night with many industry peeps asking me if he had management representation yet!  It was the first time he ever performed his new English language tracks “Whatever Whatever”, “Random Freakness” and “Before The World Is Gone”.  He’s the next big thing if you ask me and many of the fans in the crowd were in united agreement.
  • Addictive…wow!  Those girls can sing!  Not only did they deliver with new original song “Material Girl” and new single “The Domino Effect” – they paid special tribute to Michael Jackson with a guitar laden version of “Beat It”.  It was beyond amazing and I’m an even huger fan now…
  • QBoy worked the crowd into a frenzy when he stripped off, but frankly, he had to – his set of “Bounce Rave”, “Ghetto” and “The Scream Track” was way hot.  He decided to do an upbeat set because well, “swine flu and the recession has everyone sad” – but it’s hard to not be sad after you spend 15 minutes with QBoy – he has a way of putting a smile on your face…
  • John Galea – it has to be said…he was WAY better than anyone expected.  A little star is in the making with this one.  I can’t wait to bring him back to EQ to sing “Trendsetter” again.
  • Tecnoctitlan – Yes, I learned how to pronounce their name on the night.  I kinda have a little crush on keyboardist Ariel now – his hair is mesmerizing and I think I might have embarrassed him on stage when I mentioned that!  Their set was superb as well – they performed their stellar electronic track “Be Togeda” and Nine Inch Nail’s cover of “Closer”.
  • Saar & Sky – awesome set by an awesome up-and-coming band.  They are actually opening for Heartbreak this week in the same venue and I think I might just have to pop along to that to see them again!
  • Tonic – He had a great performance and showed off his new awesome dance moves.  In chatting with Tonic afterwards he told us that he considered EQ his first gig as the Live & Unsigned competition really was a hardcore competition and he felt more relaxed playing to a crowd who were there just to discover new music.

Our next EQ@Underbelly party will be on August 28th, so come on down if you missed this one – we’ll be open until 4am for the bank holiday weekend.  Already confirmed on the line-up and returning to perform at EQ are The Good Natured and Cassette Electrik.  There is a possibility that Temposhark and The Gadsdens will be headlining as well…fingers crossed…
