I only discovered René Miller the other day, when deciding to have a sort through some of my own personal mailing list subscriptions. As believe it or not, I do no rely upon PR pitches and inbox submissions alone. When it comes to searching out new and emerging talents, my spider senses are active in numerous places, and signing up with mailing lists is where it all began. I don’t always take a look at the A&R Worldwide Music & Media Newsletter. But, while I was carrying out some inbox decluttering. I did stop to read the latest edition of the newsletter and was immediately drawn to, the artist of the week section (which as you’ve probably guessed by now) where I learned about René Miller, and his song “Make Up Your Mind.”
I really liked the vibe of the track, which serves as René’s debut release since signing with Sony/ATV Germany. He didn’t arrive out of nowhere to spark this kind of label interest. He’s got form. The German singer-songwriter won the 2018 German Songwriting Awards in the “Singer-Songwriter” category.
Miller has also been busy as a guest vocalist as well as sharing his songwriting skills. Although we do find him, purely at the front and centre of debut track “Make Up Your Mind.” The track has quite a jaunty, guitar thrummed and riff-laden melody. It lifts his soulful pop voice, so it really leaps out and hits us right between the ears. You should notice more than a passing influence of Lauv, Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth in René’s vocal. He’s cutting his bid as a solo artist in much the same vein as these contemporaries. The song is incredibly catchy and has an international feel. “Make Up Your Mind” has been released for almost a month. With people like myself, starting to catch on, and some really, good playlist slots this song could be breaking onto the scene, in a much bigger way. Watch out in 2020, it might turn out to be groundbreaking for René Miller.
