Does the Swedish Independent Music Company, TEN have anyone on their roster who doesn’t measure up as being fabulously brilliant? TEN stuns me time and time again with the incredible amount of talent they are bringing out to the world. With acts such as Zara Larsson, Erik Hassle, Benjamin Ingrosso and Icona Pop inked up under their umbrella. I have learned that their fostering of emerging talent is second to none. I always make sure to check out new leads from these Swedes whenever I notice a new notification pop up on their social media accounts. Doing so, lead me to discover their latest acquisition, teenage singer-songwriter Noak Hellsing, by way of his poignantly, affecting debut effort “Lost.”
It is true to say TEN covers a lot from the electronic and pop genres, yet Noak’s debut is neither raging with beats or bursting with a shining, over-polished melody. Our first impression of the youngster comes by way of a stripped-back introduction on the track “Lost.” A gentle vocal displays his clear, soulful voice draped over a spellbinding backdrop of a strummed guitar. That’s it, just a voice and a guitar but there really isn’t any need for anything more. The song is gorgeous enough on its own merit. Lush and beautifully, heartfelt that it turns my regularly beating ticker (heart) to a pulsating blob of goo.
Elaborating on his release Noak explains:
“This song really showcases me and the type of artist that I want to be. It’s a song that’s really close to my heart, and that reflects the music that I want to make.”
The debut is a blended exhibition of his distinctive vocal and melodic flare. With the emotional drive behind the music being able to draw upon subject matter and topics from everyday life. The song has a strong message that it is okay to feel lost sometimes and that it maybe can lead to better things. I am excited by what I am hearing in this endearing song, because I am feeling Noak is setting the wheels in motion to secure his place as a powerful new music force. Keep watching.
