It’s a forging together of two of the most promising new titans of pop. Reigning indie pop kinds Bastille have wound their earnestly approached, definably off-centred artistry around Swiss Lips formidable throbbing synth anthem “U Got The Power”
Being a huge fan of this track from way back when it first propelled Swiss Lips into the internets headlights, I have to admit that I’ve never tired of the buzz that emanates from the original, it still thrills me like the first time every play, so I was kind of hesitant to go anywhere near a remix, if truth be told.
Let’s just say Bastille being one of my current choice favourites, fed my curiosity on this.
There was some quizzical face pulling as this re-work stuttered into action, followed by a beam and nod of approval when Dan Smith’s vocal’s tapered into harmony sidled beside Sam Hammond’s familiarly glowing anthemic refrains.
So OK this mix doesn’t roar with the juicy effervescent kick of the former buzz track, but what it does have is pots and pans loads of inventive character and offers an alternative chemistry that grows with each listen.
For a formal release of this track, to be honest I was a little disheartened to find that the accompanying video remains as the original film clipped fusion of body-popping from the movies although, it’s been sharpened up a touch. So in grabbing an alternate view on a remix seems even more the desirable option in conclusion.
I still think “U Got The Power” is a helluva synth-mazing riotous pop ditty and will be assured to infiltrate your Summer this year, I completely hope it does!
In any case I am way excited that the debut album will be released in July.
