Do you remember that feeling that you had when <strong>Robyn<\/strong> and <strong>Betty Who<\/strong> first burst onto pop music scene? I haven&#8217;t felt that in a while about a new female pop artist if I&#8217;m being honest. That is until I witnessed <strong>Kim Petras<\/strong> absolutely slaying it at <strong>SXSW<\/strong> this year. <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve heard <strong>Kim Petras&#8217;<\/strong> name knocking about from mutual music folk the last couple of months and all I really knew about her was that she was racking up some serious YouTube plays online. In a world of throwaway pop, big numbers don&#8217;t get me that excited anymore. However it was that magic moment when <strong>Kim Petras<\/strong> took the stage at <strong>Palm Door on Sixth<\/strong> in Austin, TX last month that it all just clicked for me.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This girl is onto something&#8230;something big.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-_3yvVmkNBE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Just listen to her tracks like <strong>&#8220;I Don&#8217;t Want It At All&#8221;<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hph2mamrzfE\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>&#8220;Faded&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>. They are pop gold. <strong>SXSW<\/strong> isn&#8217;t really known for it&#8217;s unabashed pop events, but my goodness, what <strong>Kim Petras<\/strong> brought to the festival this year was something that I really have been aching for as a pop journalist. This was a party to celebrate POP in all it&#8217;s glory. This was a party to celebrate <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/RDJXR1wXofA\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>DIVERSITY<\/strong><\/a> in pop. This was a time to just shed all our pre-conceived notions about pop music and just throw them all away and party. <\/p>\n<p>The crowd ate it up and so did I.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JC9FA8lZRy8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kim Petras<\/strong> video for <strong>&#8220;I Don&#8217;t Want It At All&#8221;<\/strong> is just fabulous if we must say so ourselves. An ode to <strong>Paris Hilton<\/strong> no less, but upon watching the video I was immediately transported back to <strong>Madonna&#8217;s &#8220;Material Girl&#8221;<\/strong> days and the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/EqY8jCWIMxo\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>underlying message<\/strong><\/a> it represented back then and still does. <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m so overjoyed I got to witness <strong>Kim Petras<\/strong> as <strong>SXSW<\/strong> this year. She only did one show and it was well worth seeing. Next time she comes round to London, I&#8217;m organising a posse and we are gonna get down and get our &#8220;pop party&#8221; on. <\/p>\n<p>Until then, <strong>Kim Petras<\/strong> is gonna rule my Spotify for quite some time&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6eC_i6WS1Hs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Seeing Kim Petras at SXSW was a chance to celebrate DIVERSITY in pop and the crowd at SXSW ATE IT UP.
