"Madonna"

Last night the music blogosphere went nutzoid for the new Madonna track “Give Me All Your Love” which made it’s way across the web so virally that in less than 24 hours, you already feel like it’s old news. Well, I’ve had a chance to listen to it this morning and the verdict…it’s “alright”.

Whenever her royal highness releases new music, you expect it to be nothing bu groundbreaking. That’s the level of perfection that we expect from Madonna – that’s why we call her the queen of pop. “Give Me All Your Love” is outright a sign of the times which will undoubtedly be a hit, but it’s certainly not among her best work.

Yes, we know that Madonna is still trying to be down with the kids in her urban Hard Candy attempts and it’s no secret that her eventual reworking of “Give Me All Your Love” will feature the vocal stylings of Nicki Minaj, but I ask you – is that really what you want? Wouldn’t you rather have the musical greatness of “Ray Of Light” once again instead of a trendy dubstep middle eight mixed with an obvious and clever re-working of “Mickey” by Toni Basil?

I’m not slamming Madonna – I still will pay top dollar to see her perform and I’ll even spin the new single in my DJ sets, but with “Give Me All Your Love” I feel for the first time in her amazing career, she is trying to keep up with the times rather than be the global trendsetter she once was.

So in review – a more “middle of the road” opinion for a “middle of the road” song. But having said that, I’m already finding myself whistling the tune in head, so extra points for being catchy.
