Labeling a new single as a “comeback” is more than often unnecessary as the artist never truly left the spotlight. After achieving a top ten U.S. hit with “Domino” and a judging stint on the UK version of The Voice, Jessie J has returned with the lead single , “Wild“, off her upcoming sophomore album. Sporting a new shaved blonde look and calling on hip-hop’s Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal, Miss Jessie J seems to be embracing a new attitude.
The fierce attitude is immediately apparent in the first verse of the new pop track. Jessie J tells listeners she is not afraid to work it with a delivery similar to her first offering, “Do It Like a Dude“. Soon after, one of 2013’s contenders for greatest pop choruses bursts through the speakers, allowing real vocals to soar. “I just can’t believe that this is my life, In my fantasy, We’re running wild“, the singer proclaims in front of simple production.
Appearances by Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal may not have been needed, “Wild” would still have been a strong offering as a solo effort, but the two men don’t take anything away from the finished product. Overall, the new single is a great mix of pop and hip-hop, one with the potential to dominate radio this summer while expanding the range of an already diverse and unique artist. Jessie J‘s career is only growing, apparently she can’t believe it, but we can.
