The 1975

And now for something highly unexpected from The 1975!

Yes, the transformation from the angsty received, monochrome hit makers of yore has really turned the corner.

Fresh from staging a return to the spotlight all pinkified and rosy with it. The alternative pop outfit were keen to showcase just how much into experimentation they have been so readily embracing when going into the making of their upcoming sophomore album “I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful, Yet So Unaware Of It” and which has already spun out the hugely 80’s aesthetic, pop-rockcentric sensory hit in first focus single “Love Me”.

As the album promo campaign swings into gear, like we are so aware of the strategy now of dropping a shedload of countdown tracks acting their part as instant grat enticement to encourage an album pre-order. I am sure we’ll be introduced to another couple of tracks or so and presumably an official 2nd single before the album sits tightly in our clutches. The band have already road tested a few tracks on some recent show dates and from what I gather via their legion of hipster fans, all has been greatly well received of their new path of neon noise direction.

It really is an actual case of that too. From the grainy Youtube clips of sneaked live footage, the band are amplified in colourised beams of fluorescent, laser light. A key shift in image concept that band are now eager to share and which they do so in presenting “UGH!” a non-official single, termed a countdown single which is shows Matt and bandmates off as quite the funksters.

Yes you heard right The 1975 have gone all soul-funk on us! If you don’t press play your ears probably won’t believe it. Aww or rather “UGH!” this tune is so like a revelation in terms of where the band can take on a metamorphosis and emerge transformed, but not so softened they are unrecognisable from whence they first came.

One last thing I gotta say about “UGH!” is the melodious harmonies are something glorious, and quite got me jamming out everso hyper excitably like this kid Santi Lozano, who is just like the BEST in ‘fan’ entertainment.
