Macedonia is calling us or rather Andrea, Macedonia’s leading pop artist is. Being a country that does not pop up on our music radar terribly often, albeit around this time of year when a certain European based song competition takes place. You might therefore make the assumption this is the reason why the singer is currently picking up heat. But Andrea’s track “Talk to Me” isn’t even an entry for Eurovision 2021. She has purely become the most buzzed-about pop artist in Macedonia because of her powerful, soulful voice via the combined strengths of YouTube and the TikTok platforms.
I must say curiosity got the better of me when “Talk to Me” was dropped into my inbox. Most notably because it isn’t every day I’m being alerted to Macedonian pop releases, springing up in there. And because of being a country that doesn’t usually grab a lot of attention at Eurovision either. At home, Andrea’s on a trajectory to become Macedonia’s answer to Dua Lipa because of the way she approaches pop in a modern, engaging style. It feels like she’s trying to secure a radio hit with “Talk to Me.” With it being a bouncy, sing-a-long pop song about and awkwardness, shyness and acting upon crushes.
The track is a Europop flavoured delight putting Andrea and Macedonia on the pop music map right now. She’s only just getting started, yet achieved so much in just five short months already. With “Talk to Me” delivering on a tried and tested vibe. Pop meets with dancefloor crossover possibilities meets fun, flirty lyrics, and will suddenly awaken many to the music sounds currently being produced out of Southeast Europe. No longer regarded as being out on a limb, producing radio-friendly pop that is on par with its European counterparts. Andrea had better get used to being a pop star real quick because chances are the leap from social media platforms to radio and TV won’t be far off.
