For one hot minute I was getting a little “bored” with Hurts and their new era with “Exile”, but I have to say, I really enjoyed their new video for “Somebody To Die For”. It’s sort of a modern day re-imagining of “Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode with stylized elements highlighting a watchful Virgin Mary with splashes of pastel blue contrasting the stark desolation of a small desert town.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still looking for that moment in “Exile” where I’m like “Fuck yeah, now that is Hurts 2.0″, but this will do for now I suppose. Something has to be said for doing what you know best and Hurts execute it brilliantly with precision.
However, we do live in a day-and-age of constant change and re-invention and pushing the boundaries of pop music, perhaps it would be wise for Hurts to just “mix it up” just a tiny bit.
